Members of the Miao ethnic group from Anshun in Guizhou province celebrated the Tiaohua Festival on Wednesday, dancing around a tall, decorated tree.
The festival features lusheng pipe music and rituals to seek blessings. The tree symbolizes unity.
Local oral histories identify Anshun as the birthplace of the festival, and the celebration commemorates a legendary hero while serving as a traditional occasion for expressions of affection between young people.
