The Kunming Zoo in Yunnan province has recently come alive with spring as the crabapple flowers have started to bloom and the cherry blossoms begun budding, surrounding the animals in dazzling shades of pink.

Every year, from late February to late March, the cherry blossoms and crabapple flowers at Kunming Zoo reach their peak bloom, drawing many visitors.

Since the two types of flowers have similar shapes and colors, this flower viewing season is collectively known as the Yuantong Cherry Blossom Tide. The Tide is one of the most iconic spring spectacles in Kunming and has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan province, according to yunnan.cn, a local news outlet.
