Xi'an listed as national top 10 destination for cross-city family trips

With its rich cultural heritage and diverse array of family-oriented offerings, Xi'an has been named among the top 10 most popular cross-city family travel destinations in China during the winter vacation.

Xi'an City Wall

The 2026 Year of the Horse Lantern Festival kicked off on Jan 1 and will run until March 22.

The exhibition route links six historic city gates, from Jianguo Gate to Hanguang Gate, with lantern sets integrating over 50 national cultural relics, 39 Year-of-the-Horse zodiac motifs, and elements of classic Tang (618–907) poetry.

The 55 immersive experiences staged daily, including Tang-style performances and lion dances, ensure kids are fully entertained, while parents can savor the timeless charm of ancient Chang'an (today's Xi'an).

Weiyang Palace

Weiyang Palace, the eastern starting point of the ancient Silk Road, has launched a variety of cultural events to celebrate Spring Festival.

The events include a digital Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD) palace experience and a Han culture exhibition, bringing millennia-old traditions to life and making Weiyang Palace a must-visit spot for kids this winter vacation.

Qinling Four Rare Animals Science Park

Qinling Four Rare Animals Science Park is Shaanxi province's only conservation base for rare wild animals and a top choice for family-friendly science education.

Here, visitors can encounter Qizai, a brown giant panda, along with beautiful crested ibises and golden snub-nosed monkeys.

The park is also home to more than 20 species of rare wild animals native to the Qinling Mountains, including black bears, goral, and golden eagles. Kids can learn about animal habits and wildlife conservation up close as they embrace the ecological beauty of the Qinling Mountains.
