Fujian unveils provincewide Spring Festival events

Fujian province will waive admission fees at major tourist attractions and offer free public transportation in select cities during the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, alongside a province-wide program of lantern fairs and traditional cultural events marking the Chinese New Year.

The measures are intended to ease holiday travel pressure while expanding public access to cultural activities during China's peak travel season, when domestic tourism and mobility typically reach annual highs.

Wuyi Mountain scenic area will be open to visitors free of charge throughout the holiday period. Local authorities will also provide more than 7,500 free public parking spaces and allow passengers to ride city buses at no cost to help manage congestion.

In Putian, the large-scale live performance Yuanqi Meizhou (Origin of Meizhou) will resume on Feb 6 at Mazu Film City, accompanied by Lantern Festival-themed events featuring fireworks and traditional folk performances, including striking iron flower performances.

Kangli village in Pingnan county, Ningde, will host a Spring Festival gala and an intangible cultural heritage street exhibition from Feb 18 to March 13, with programs including luantan (literally "random pluck") and puppet shows.

In Fuzhou, the 24th Mawei-Matsu Lantern Festival will open on Feb 4 at the China Shipbuilding Culture Scenic Area, featuring more than 100 lantern installations across a 50,000-square-meter site that highlight shared folk traditions from Mawei district and Matsu, shipbuilding heritage and long-standing cultural ties between Fujian and Taiwan.
