Off-road expedition explores Ningxia's Helan Mountains

On Dec 21, 2025, more than 50 off-road vehicles embarked on an expedition in the Helan Mountains, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, to demonstrate its potential as a world-class adventure tourism destination. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

Organizers of the expedition introduced a trail classification system that establishes standardized difficulty ratings for 88 vehicle routes, along with numerous paths for hiking, mountain biking, and motorcycle riding. The experience blended adventure with culture through a wine-tasting session featuring local Ningxia vintages.

To expand off-road projects, Yinchuan plans to launch a series of themed, internationalized route networks and link up with surrounding wine estates, the Western Xia Tombs, Helan Mountains rock paintings, and other resources.
