IMF chief backs China's shift in growth model

Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, told China Daily reporter that China's 14th Five-Year Plan has met its growth objectives, demonstrating the country's ability to adapt to changing circumstances. She highlighted what she considers the most significant development: Change in China's growth model from an export-led growth model to consumption-led one in 2025.

"We strongly support this reorientation," Georgieva said.

Georgieva made the remarks on Wednesday in Beijing as the IMF completed its annual assessment of the Chinese economy, the China Article IV consultation mission.
