Gulangyu Gallery unveils new name and its largest exhibition to date

The Gulangyu Gallery of Artefacts from the Palace Museum Collection, formerly known as Kulangsu Gallery of Foreign Artefacts from the Palace Museum Collection, held a ceremony to announce its new name and launch a new exhibition on Dec 6 in Xiamen.

A collaboration between Xiamen municipal government and the Palace Museum, the Gulangyu Gallery of Artefacts from the Palace Museum Collection is the only thematic branch of the Palace Museum outside Beijing, exhibiting a rich collection of ancient Chinese art and foreign artifacts, mostly drawn from the Palace Museum's holdings.

This new exhibition features the largest number of artifacts of any exhibition since the museum's opening eight years ago. Over 200 items are on display, including 128 new exhibits. These span several centuries of history, from the Shang Dynasty (c. 16th century-11th century BC) to the modern era, and include unique and rare items from various countries and regions.

Highlighting the exhibition are two celebrated pieces of Dehua ware: a white glazed statue of avalokitesvara budhisattva with "He Chao Zhong" mark in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and an incense burner with beat-shaped handles in white glaze.
