The Drama Farewell My Concubine returned to the Beijing International Theatre Center on Sunday, with an immersive staging that places the audience around a Chu army tent, reliving the fateful night of the Chu–Han conflict. This historic power struggle between Xiang Yu (232-202 BC) and Liu Bang (256-195 BC) shaped the dawn of the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), marking one of China’s most dramatic battles for supremacy.
Based on Mo Yan’s debut stage script, the play reimagines this turning point through a modern lens, exploring love, power, identity and destiny amid a world on the edge of collapse.
