Baotou promotes energy revolution

Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Baotou has made significant progress in developing its wind and solar resources.

The city's annual effective utilization hours of the wind and solar resources exceed 3,000 hours, making it a treasure trove of green energy. The city's new energy grid capacity has reached 11.31 million kilowatts, a historic breakthrough of 50.53 percent of the total installed capacity, providing significant cost advantages for high energy consuming industries.

Baotou's crystalline silicon photovoltaic industry has achieved rapid development thanks to the presence of 13 global leading enterprises, including Inner Mongolia Tongwei Silicon Energy Co, and Inner Mongolia Daquan New Energy Co. These companies have driven the improvement of local supporting systems, with a supporting rate of over 65 percent.

Significant breakthroughs have been made in hydrogen energy. The hydrogen energy regional pilot project in Baotou's energy sector has been selected as one of the nine national pilot areas. The hydrogen long-distance pipeline project from Darhan-Muminggan Joint Banner to the city's urban area has also been included as one of the 41 pilot projects, injecting strong impetus into the construction of a modern hydrogen energy industry system.

Thanks to the promotion of projects such as the Hyper Strong Energy Storage Industrial Park, the local energy storage industry chain is becoming increasingly strong, providing solid support for building the "China Energy Storage Capital".

As of now, the city has gathered 24 energy storage equipment manufacturing enterprises. An upstream material production capacity of 170,000 metric tons of negative electrode materials, 5,181 tons of nickel cobalt salts, 300 tons of carbon nanotubes, and 25,000 tons of copper foil has been established. In the midstream manufacturing process, a manufacturing capability of 2GWh Pack (battery pack), 3GW inverter, and 9.5GWh energy storage system has been formed.

These achievements define the development of the energy storage industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, laying a solid foundation for the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
