2025 Black Box Xiqu Performance Season kicks off

The opening ceremony of the 2025 Black Box Xiqu Performance Season was recently held at the Star Theater in Xicheng District.

This year’s festival brings together 18 top-tier troupes and creative teams from across the country, presenting 21 acclaimedxiquproductions in 60 performances. Among them, 13 shows will be open to the public for free. The lineup spans a rich variety of traditional opera genres, including Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yue Opera, Liyuan Opera, Gaojia Opera, Hebeibangzi, Lv Opera, Qinqiang, Puju Opera, Pingju Opera and string puppetry.

In addition to performances, the event will also feature a range of public activities, such as opera-themed flash mobs, costume try-on, and traditional makeup experience activities, an oil painting exhibition ofxiqucharacters, themed lectures, and parent-child theater workshops.
