Guizhou’s Leishan county came alive on Nov 5 as Miao New Year celebrations kicked off with a grand parade of intangible cultural heritage and vibrant performances. Dressed in colorful traditional attire, performers danced to rhythms of the lusheng (a reed-pipe wind instrument), celebrating the rich spirit and vitality of Miao culture — a true showcase of “Colorful Guizhou”.
Miao New Year celebrates the harvest, honors ancestors and offers thanks to nature. For Miao people in Leishan, the new year falls in the 10th month of the Chinese calendar.
