The Miao New Year was celebrated in Leishan county, Guizhou province, on Wednesday.
The festival celebrates the harvest, honors ancestors, and offers thanks to nature. For Miao people in Leishan, the end of the year comes in the 10th month of the Chinese calendar. Bringing grain into the home symbolizes that the year's cycle is complete.
This year's celebrations will last more than a month. An opening ceremony and a parade attended by more than 10,000 people were held on Wednesday, drawing visitors from across the country.
