"Otog Front Banner Mutton" was included in the 2025 Classic Cases of Geographical Indication (GI) Industry Chain Development, marking the second time the brand has been nationally recognized as a model case.
This was announced at the 10th World Geographical Indication Brand Distribution Service Conference and the 2025 Annual Conference on the Development of Geographical Industry.
Located in western Inner Mongolia, Otog Front Banner boasts 13.96 million mu (930,666.67 hectares) of natural grasslands, 5.6 million mu of certified organic pastures, and over 180 varieties of premium forage, providing ideal conditions for livestock farming. With this unique ecosystem and longstanding tradition of animal husbandry, the region has developed "Otog Front Banner Mutton" into a nationally recognized GI product.
Today, the local sheep industry sustains a stock of 2 million head, with 1.27 million marketed annually, producing 21,030 metric tons of mutton and generating an annual output value of 1.2 billion yuan ($169.01 million).
