The 2025 Peking Opera Cultural Season recently commenced at Beijing People's Theater, launching a series of high-profile activities designed to attract more people to experience the art of Peking Opera.
This year, the season's flagship initiative, the "Peking Opera Ambassador" program, has been relaunched. It invites key opinion leaders, bloggers/vloggers, scholars, and experts to join, leveraging their online influence and creativity to inject new vitality into the art form.
The opening ceremony featured the launch of a Peking Opera-themed pop-up lifestyle store and three themed study tour routes. The pop-up store, collaborating with traditional opera-themed cultural and creative stores in Xicheng, offers services like trying on costumes and experiencing traditional makeup. The study tour routes allow citizens to explore the history of Peking Opera while discovering local life and culture.
Entries selected for the Opera-Themed Cultural and Creative Illustration Exhibition are also on display. The exhibition aims to reinterpret the beauty of Peking Opera through illustration, promoting the transformation of artworks into cultural products and digital assets, thereby boosting the integration of culture, commerce, and tourism.
The 2025 Culture Season encompasses an opening ceremony, a closing gala, four core sections, and various industrial projects. It seeks to refresh artistic expression through new productions, expand experiential scenarios via technological integration, stimulate urban business districts through cultural-commercial-tourism integration, and energize the traditional-opera industry by developing Peking Opera-related intellectual property.
Xicheng District, the birthplace of Peking Opera, has made significant strides in recent years in preserving and inheriting the art form, fostering artistic innovation, increasing public cultural access, and promoting integrated development. These efforts continue to polish its historic reputation as the "Cradle of Peking Opera."
