Why I’m named Yan An

China Daily reporter Yan An was named after Northwest China’s Yan’an, a sacred place of the Chinese revolution and the cradle of New China.

In the 1930s, American journalist Edgar Snow described the place as “one of the poorest parts I have ever seen”, yet it exuded a spirit of “freedom, dignity and hope”.

Once the political guidance center of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Yan’an attracted young people from across the nation, leading China to victory. How did that happen?
