Data from Meituan Travel reveals that Taishan Mountain in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province, secured a spot in China's top 10 most popular scenic areas during the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period.

The sacred peak, long regarded as a cultural and natural landmark, attracted a huge number of visitors, reflecting its enduring appeal as a must-visit destination during major holidays.

Taishan Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has embraced smart tourism — now, visitors can explore the entire scenic area with just a smartphone. At the same time, a growing range of creative cultural products allows them to take a piece of Taishan Mountain's heritage back home. These changes are paying off: on August 23, visitor numbers surpassed 6 million, putting the park on track to exceed 8 million visitors for the third consecutive year.

As one of China's five great mountains, Taishan Mountain offers more than spectacular views — it embodies centuries of spiritual, historical, and aesthetic significance. Travelers flock to witness its legendary sunrise, climb stone steps carved by time, and experience the profound sense of awe that has drawn pilgrims and emperors for millennia. The surge in visitors underscores a growing public interest in outdoor and culture-rich travel experiences.

Tai'an, a national historical and cultural city and a top Chinese tourism destination, offers far more than its iconic peak.

New themed destinations like Dongping Water Margin film city and Feicheng peach blossom valley add diversity to the city's cultural offerings. By the end of July, Tai'an had welcomed 52.79 million domestic tourists, generating tourism revenue of 52.09 billion yuan ($7.3 million) — a year-on-year increase of nearly 10 percent. The average length of stay also rose to 2.12 days, up 10.4 percent compared to the previous year.
