Hohhot's foreign trade hits record high in Jan-Aug

The Saihan Customs under Hohhot Customs published that Hohhot city's foreign trade maintained steady growth in the first eight months of this year, reaching a record high for the same period.

In the first eight months of this year, the total value of foreign trade in Hohhot reached 16.41 billion yuan ($2.3 billion), increasing by 8.9 percent year-on-year. Imports were valued at 6.72 billion yuan, exports at 9.69 billion yuan.

Hohhot's trade structure has become increasingly diversified. While general trade remains dominant, processing trade has seen rapid growth, and bonded logistics and other trade models are also expanding, reflecting the city's improving trade ecosystem.

Private enterprises continued to play a pivotal role, accounting for the majority of Hohhot's trade. The number of enterprises engaged in imports and exports increased compared with last year, with private businesses contributing the bulk of growth and becoming the backbone of the city's foreign trade.

In terms of goods, agricultural products, food, and consumer goods remained the top imports, while cultural products, precious metals, electromechanical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech products drove export growth. Among them, cultural products and precious metals emerged as new highlights, injecting fresh momentum into the city's export portfolio.
