During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the city's total installed power capacity steadily increased, the power grid network became more robust, and the use of renewable energy expanded rapidly. By the end of 2024, Hohhot's installed capacity had surpassed 21 million kilowatts, with wind and solar power accounting for a much larger share.

Since the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), renewable energy capacity has more than quadrupled, while new energy storage projects went from zero to initial deployment, giving the city a solid foundation for low-carbon development.

Meanwhile, a multi-tiered power grid supported by 500-kilovolt transmission lines has taken shape, with supply reliability maintained at over 99.9 percent, ensuring stable electricity for urban life and industrial growth.

The Datang Mengxi Tuoketuo new energy transmission project in Helingeer county has delivered more than 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity to other regions since its launch, cutting annual carbon emissions by over 3.5 million metric tons. At the same time, local storage power stations and microgrid projects are advancing rapidly, providing solutions to the challenges of renewable energy integration.

Next, Hohhot will align with the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) to further strengthen its energy supply system. Efforts will focus on optimizing project layout, upgrading the grid, accelerating key project implementation, and advancing the complementary development of wind, solar, and storage. At the same time, natural gas storage and pipeline construction will be expanded to enhance supply resilience.

A safer, more efficient, and greener modern energy system is now taking shape in Hohhot.
