Taiyuan accelerates intellectual property protection and development

Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has strengthened intellectual property protection and promoted its utilization, driving rapid progress and notable breakthroughs in the province's IP development.

Since 2021, the number of valid registered trademarks in Taiyuan has increased from 97,187 to 139,155, the number of valid invention patents has increased from 13,448 to 24,008, and the number of high-value invention patents per 10,000 people has increased from 7.45 to 14.24.

In recent years, Taiyuan bureau of market supervision has entrusted Taiyuan State-owned Capital Investment Co with a five-year, 20 million yuan ($2.81 million) investment to establish four intellectual property operation centers.

As of now, more than 100 commercialization projects have been implemented by these centers, with a commercialization operation amount of more than 80 million yuan, driving more than 120 enterprises, universities, and research institutions in the industrial chain.

Last year, the Taiyuan bureau of market supervision established the China (Shanxi) Intellectual Property Rights Protection Assistance Center Taiyuan Branch, built 13 rights protection assistance workstations, an academician workstation, and a key laboratory intellectual property service station.

In October 2021, Taiyuan built the province's first intellectual property service industry cluster in Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone, with 12 public service institutions and 28 socialized intellectual property service institutions settled in.

At the end of 2023, a regional intellectual property service industry cluster was built in Xiaodian district, and Beijing University Science Park (Guangzhou) Co was introduced to manage and operate it. According to statistics, the cluster has processed nearly 280,000 applications, agencies, transactions, pledge financing, patent navigation, evaluation, information retrieval, escrow services, and other intellectual property businesses.
