NGUYA, China's offshore floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility with the largest tonnage and highest gas storage capacity, independently developed and manufactured, departed from Nantong on Aug 26.

The NGUYA FLNG was developed by Wison New Energies Co, a company based in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA), demonstrating the region's strong capabilities in deep-sea industry and high-end energy equipment manufacturing.

With the strategic location along the Yangtze River, NETDA began to develop its shipbuilding and marine engineering sector at the start of this century.

Over more than twenty years, it has drawn several major companies such as Zhongtian Technologies Submarine Cable Co, Wison New Energies Co, and HTWG Heavy Industry Co, creating a comprehensive industrial chain that includes steel structures, transmission devices, hatch covers, heat exchangers, rail-mounted cranes, ships, offshore platforms, and ship decoration.

These companies have made significant advances in technological innovation. For instance, Zhongtian Technologies Submarine Cable Co has created China's first practical deep-sea optical cable. HTWG Heavy Industry Co's "large-capacity, compact, and durable offshore wind power booster stations and supporting equipment" hold a place among the top three in the domestic market share.

This year, NETDA has further intensified its focus on the deep-sea industry, with over 20 projects signed and launched in the first half of the year, totaling over 10 billion yuan ($1.40 billion).
