Introduction: This song is selected from the second act of the opera The Marriage of Figaro. The story tells of the debate between Figaro and the Count when Marcellina, the doctor Bartolo, and the music teacher Basilio arrive and proudly announce that Figaro must fulfill his promise to marry Marcellina. The witness of the marriage is Dr Bartolo. This news makes everyone present have different expressions: proud Marcellina and the doctor, gloating Basilio and the Count, poor Susanna, sympathetic Countess, and bewildered Figaro – singing this comic septet.
