Gateway to Arts summer festival, an annual event for art lovers, especially children, in the capital during the summer vacation, closed on Aug 24, with a concert by Beijing Chinese Orchestra.
Before the concert, musicians of the orchestra displayed traditional Chinese musical instruments, such as suona and erhu, to the audience at the concert hall.
Veteran erhu player Song Fei was invited to be the soloist of the concert, as well as performing with the orchestra, showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese music.
The summer event, first launched in 1994 and opened at the Forbidden City Concert Hall on July 7 this year, ran for over 50 days, and offered 45 exciting performances, 12 summer arts camps and for the first time, a nine-part lecture series highlighting traditional Chinese music.
