An exhibition on view in the Summer Palace Museum in Beijing showcases the southward evacuation and northward return of China's national treasures between 1933 and 1951. A total of 160 artworks, suffering from war yet safeguarded across thousands of miles, are reunited, and their trials and triumphs are recounted. It is also a tribute to the cultural guardians who risked life and limb to protect the lifeblood of Chinese civilization.
