The Central-Axis Citywalk: Decoding the Ancient Capital's World Heritage, part of this year's Beijing International Talent Carnival, kicked off in Beijing on August 1.

The event offers foreign experts an immersive journey through Beijing's iconic Central Axis. It also marks the first anniversary of the Beijing Central Axis' UNESCO World Heritage inscription.

Ten experts from the United States, Sweden, Italy, Japan and other countries delved into the 700-year legacy of the Beijing Central Axis, witnessing the seamless fusion of Beijing's historic grandeur and contemporary dynamism. The walk underscored the city's dual identity as a custodian of ancient traditions and a hub of global innovation.

At Zhengyangmen Archery Tower, the experts examined the exhibition "Beijing's Central Axis", learning about the city's heritage conservation efforts while appreciating the site's historical significance. The panoramic view revealed Beijing's harmonious urban planning: Qianmen Avenue's lively historic district to the south, flanked by Beijing Fun's modern developments blending with traditional neighborhoods.

At the Drum Tower, experts explored the digital "Story of Time" exhibition showcasing ancient timekeeping devices such as sundialsand incense clocks. This Beijing Central Axis landmark once regulated time for three dynasties. The visit culminated with a traditional drum performance on the second floor, bringing the tower's historic timekeeping role to life.

The participants included both long-term Beijing residents of over 40 years and newcomers drawn by the city's work opportunities. As they strolled along the Beijing Central Axis, the experts experienced a seamless blend of history and modernity, marveling at the ancient city's revitalized charm and the capital's bold vision.

Chen Deliang, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, praised the integration of the Beijing Central Axis into a World Heritage bid as a brilliant initiative.

Chen noted that the 7.8-kilometer stretch encapsulated centuries of culture, seamlessly connecting Beijing's ancient landmarks into a cohesive narrative that captures the city's essence. He added that he would recommend the experience, expressing his deep admiration for both the Beijing Central Axis and Beijing itself.

The 2025 Beijing International Talent Carnival provides foreign experts with an exciting platform to explore and connect with Beijing. It presents five engaging modules: cultural exchange, tech innovation, career opportunities, sports activities and international cuisine. Together these elements create a truly immersive international experience.

More than just an event, the carnival demonstrates Beijing's commitment to openness and inclusion. By showcasing the city's vibrant talent ecosystem, it attracts top professionals from around the world while strengthening Beijing's position as a global hub for innovation and cultural exchange.
