​Xi'an accelerates hydrogen industrial development

Xi'an has been focusing on its industrial foundation and scientific research advantages as the "National Hydrogen Energy Science and Technology Innovation Capital".

The hydrogen energy industry in Xi'an has formed a complete industry chain. As of 2024, the city had introduced and established more than 120 hydrogen energy enterprises, accounting for more than half of Shaanxi province's total, with an annual output value of nearly 3 billion yuan ($417.14 million).

Xixian New Area has built a hydrogen production unit with an annual output of 30,000 metric tons, and has put into operation the second phase of the Changwei hydrogen refueling demonstration station, which has a daily refueling capacity of 1,200 kilograms. The construction of the fuel cell standard testing platform has been completed, and the first PEM hydrogen production-hydrogen energy cogeneration demonstration project in the province has been put into operation.

Xi'an has formed a joint force with regions including Yulin, Weinan, and Hancheng to promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry. It has collaborated with Yulin on research and development applications, utilizing Xi'an's R&D innovation and Yulin's application scenario advantages. This has led to the implementation of cross-regional collaborative projects represented by Qingnovo, achieving a practical and large-scale application of the world's first zero-carbon supply and demand system containing hydrogen energy.

The city is also improving its supporting service system and has established Shaanxi province's first hydrogen energy industry fund, which collaborates with universities to cultivate more than 500 high-level talents in the hydrogen energy field.

Xi'an will expand diverse application scenarios, accelerate the construction of hydrogen energy detection research institutes, and deepen regional collaboration to promote high-quality industrial development.
