Nantong has launched its first integrated green and intelligent charging station featuring wind-solar hybrid power generation, energy storage, and charging-discharging capabilities, marking the start of a new stage in the development of the city's sustainable transportation.

Located in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA), the station covers 3,473 square meters and is the largest and most functionally comprehensive demonstration charging facility in the city.

Building upon the original 11 direct current fast-charging piles, the Phase I upgrade added a 480kW group charging and control system, two 120kW dual-gun vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging piles, and 12 additional charging points. This expansion enables simultaneous charging for 23 electric vehicles.

The station integrates renewable energy facilities such as 2kW rooftop wind turbines and 142.68kWp canopy and rooftop photovoltaic systems with an estimated annual power generation of 130,000 kWh. It is also equipped with a 50kW/216kWh solid-state energy storage system to achieve efficient utilization of clean energy.

The photovoltaic power generation is prioritized for charging equipment and lighting systems, with surplus electricity fed into the grid.

The energy storage system charges once daily during nighttime valley periods (the period with low electricity demand) and discharges once during daytime peak periods (the period with high electricity demand). This approach both optimizes clean energy utilization and reduces facility operation costs through peak-valley arbitrage.

The station has also implemented V2G interaction technology, conducting discharge trials with ride-hailing fleets to explore bidirectional energy flow between electric vehicles and the grid, thereby enhancing grid flexibility and optimizing power distribution.

The forthcoming Phase II will deploy liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging equipment and battery swapping facilities, while pioneering a shared charging service model to meet diversified demands.

Beyond improving charging efficiency, this demonstration station establishes both economic viability and technical support for sustainable mobility, propelling Nantong's transformation into a hub for low-carbon transportation.
