The 2025 Green Computing (Artificial Intelligence) Conference was held in Hohhot on July 12 under the theme "Building a Green Computing Ecosystem, Creating a New Future for AI".

As one of eight national computing hubs, Hohhot has emerged as a pioneer in integrating sustainability with digital innovation. The city's data centers now rely on green electricity for nearly 90 percent of their power needs, supported by an integrated wind-solar-storage model. With a total computing capacity exceeding 100,000 Petaflops (P), Hohhot exemplifies a virtuous cycle between power consumption and renewable energy utilization. The launch of China's first green computing-electricity coordination base has transformed local success into a national model.

Green computing has powered a flourishing AI ecosystem in the region. From AI smart classrooms and industrial control platforms to precision agricultural models and financial data clusters, applications are expanding rapidly. Key infrastructure projects such as Huawei Cloud's new data center further reinforce Hohhot's status as a strategic AI hub.

The conference brought together over 500 enterprises and key national computing hubs, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Hetao Cloud Cluster's multi-cloud platform has now been connected to the national computing network, supporting coordinated operations under China's first national green computing-electricity pilot program.

To accelerate growth, Hohhot has also introduced 17 policy measures, including 128 million yuan ($17.85 million) in annual funding, 50 million yuan in computing vouchers, and a 3 billion yuan AI industry fund, aiming to exceed 800,000P in computing power and reach a 100-billion-yuan AI industrial scale by 2027.
