Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province was recently recognized as a port-based national logistics hub by central authorities, according to local media reports.
Such an approval is a reaffirmation and recognition of the high alignment between Nantong and the national logistics hub's positioning.
Nantong is a comprehensive transportation hub city nationwide and the only city in Jiangsu with both deep-water coastlines along the Yangtze River and the Yellow Sea.
It has the advantages of a seaport that connects globally through the Yellow Sea, sits along the Yangtze River serving the inland areas, and is adjacent to Shanghai.
The Nantong port-based national logistics hub primarily relies on operating areas along the Yangtze River and the Yellow Sea, as well as the Lyusi Port operation area. The hub spans multiple county-level areas, including Haimen and Qidong, with a total area of approximately 16.5 square kilometers.
By the end of 2024, the ports within the hub had operated 37 domestic and foreign trade routes, covering more than 50 countries and regions worldwide. In 2024, the hub delivered about 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units of containers, 1.1 million cubic meters of general cargo, and 250,000 metric tons of bulk cargo.
The hub will further develop a modern port logistics system that covers a wider area, meets higher standards, and delivers better benefits. At the same time, it will deepen collaboration with other ports in the Yangtze River Delta, continuously enhance its services, and reduce costs while improving logistics efficiency.
