Bohaiwan Port Group of Shandong Port Group, in partnership with Shandong Marine-River Port Co Ltd. and Shandong Marine Corporation, has launched Shandong province's first road-river-sea combined transport service for chemicals.

The consignment of 2,000 metric tons of ammonia sulfate was delivered from Jinan Port to Xiaoqing River, then to Weifang Port and Yantai Port, pioneering an innovative intermodal transport route. This marks a new era in the cooperative evolution of ports and shipping companies.

"The service is not only an innovation in transport routes, but also an example of green and low-carbon logistics," said a manager responsible for logistics business at Luxi Chemical. The service adopts an intermodal transport model combining road freight, river shipping and seaborne transport. Anticipated benefits include a 15 to 20 percent reduction in logistics costs and a 30-percent decrease in carbon emissions annually compared with traditional road transport.

Prior to the establishment of the multimodal transport corridor, Bohaiwan Port strengthened collaboration with coastal and river ports across Shandong to develop a seamless transit hub. This initiative aims to offer a professional and reliable "door-to-port" whole-process shipping solution. Leveraging the advantages of ports in integrating supply chain resources has led to the establishment of a new logistics supply chain system characterized by river-sea combined transport and port connectivity.
