During the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), Shajiabang, located by the shore of Yangcheng Lake, became a guerrilla base linking Suzhou, Changshu, and Taicang. With the strong support of the local people and by making full use of the area's natural geography, Chinese forces carried out a bitter and heroic armed struggle against the Japanese invaders.

The Shajiabang Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is a venue established to commemorate and promote the glorious traditions of the military and civilians of Shajiabang town. Covering an area of 670,000 square meters, it honors the region’s significant role during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

Shajiabang has leveraged its rich resources—including revolutionary heritage, the natural ecology of its reed marshes, the idyllic scenery of a Jiangnan water town, and local folk customs—to develop into a scenic tourism area that features patriotic and revolutionary education while integrating education, leisure, and recreation. A "Jiangnan water town" (or "Jiangnan river town") refers to the picturesque towns located in the Jiangnan region (south of the Yangtze River) in China, characterized by their abundant waterways and canals, stone bridges, traditional architecture, whitewashed houses with black-tiled roofs and a laid-back, serene atmosphere.

Established in 2021, the newly built hall is well-organized, equipped with advanced display technologies, and holds a more comprehensive collection of historical materials. Centered on the two main themes of patriotic education and Chinese revolutionary tradition, the hall uses dioramas and cutting-edge multimedia technology to create immersive environments. Incorporating elements of entertainment, it offers an engaging educational experience, combining historical images, realistic settings, artifact displays, and interactive experiences.
