Dragon boat 'sails' from Hunan to Beijing's Olympic Forest Park

A nearly 20-meter-long dragon boat "raced" from its birthplace in Lanxi town, in Hunan province's Yiyang, to the lake of Beijing's Olympic Forest Park to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

This year, the museum reached out to Lanxi, where the unique "double-oar dragon boat" took shape as early as the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The vessel takes its name from its distinctive structure, which allows two lines of racers — one standing, one sitting — to paddle simultaneously.

Lanxi's government donated the boat to the museum.

The museum held a cultural heritage fair during the holiday, with dozens of stands presenting handicrafts from around the country.
