Jinan ranked eighth among the most popular regional travel destinations in China during the Duanwu (Dragon Boat Festival) holiday from May 31 to June 2, according to a travel report released by Trip.com Group.
The report reveals that 64 percent of travelers opted for local or short-distance trips during the holiday, with themes like summer cooling and folk culture taking center stage. Top destinations included Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan, Chengdu, and Huzhou.
Water-themed activities surged in popularity during the holiday, and with its iconic spring culture, Jinan emerged as a top choice for tourists looking to beat the heat.
The report shows that hotel bookings in Jinan increased by 8 percent year-on-year during the period, with most visitors coming from nearby cities such as Beijing, Qingdao, and Tianjin.
The Baotu Spring Scenic Area was a popular choice thanks to its refreshing spring landscapes, while parks like Sunac Water World drew families with cool and fun-filled attractions.
Folk experience tours also saw a notable rise. Travel with children accounted for nearly 25 percent of all bookings, and family-oriented attractions represented 90 percent of the top 50 scenic spots by transaction value.
