Today, along the Beijing section of the Grand Canal, natural scenery, historical sites and bustling urban life flourish together across seven districts, according to the Beijing municipal government.
The canal's revitalization in Beijing has included adding 500 million cubic meters of water, creating over 50 kilometers of new and renovated riverside greenways, opening several wetland parks and establishing the Beijing (Tongzhou) Grand Canal as a 5A cultural tourism destination.
