Hohhot agricultural products gain national recognition through innovation

Eighty agricultural and livestock products from Hohhot have been included in the national catalog of renowned, specialty, and high-quality new agricultural products. These encompass a broad range of categories, including crops, livestock, aquatic products, and dairy products.

This achievement reflects the integration of technological innovation across the entire agricultural chain, transforming the sector from traditional practices to data-driven, high-value development.

A key driver of this transformation is the agricultural product quality evaluation and big data analysis team from the Northern Agriculture and Livestock Husbandry Technical Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. They have established a scientific evaluation system that decodes product quality through the model.

Using this system, they have uncovered nutritional highlights. For example, they discovered that Tuoxian county's chili peppers contain 1.4 times more vitamin C, 34 percent more potassium, and 1.3 times more selenium than reference values. These findings confirm the chili’s balanced nutrition, offering a model for quality improvement in similar products.

With technology reshaping traditional agriculture, the team also developed a Big Data Analysis Platform for Agricultural and Livestock Quality, based on over a decade of regional testing data. This platform revealed that Helin mutton contains 13.2 percent more unsaturated fatty acids and 6.7g/100g of savory amino acids, helping producers fine-tune feed formulas and breeding methods.

With the ability to analyze 27 quality indicators, including shear force and cholesterol, the platform also supports standardized product development for Mongolian cuisine.

In response to evolving consumer demands, the team has built a regional quality database containing 32,000 sets of data. Their origin-tracing AI model enables precise product authentication by analyzing test results, reducing counterfeit rates of geographical indication products like Wuchuan county's oat noodles and Qingshuihe county's rice by 62 percent.
