Established on July 1, 1950, the Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall in Shaanxi province holds the distinction of being one of the earliest revolutionary memorial halls built after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. On Aug 28, 2009, its expanded facilities were completed and opened to the public, offering free admission while dramatically enhancing its exhibition capacity.

The main structure of the new building covers an area of 29,853 square meters, with 10,677 square meters dedicated to exhibitions. Two permanent exhibitions are open to visitors: The History of the Yan'an Revolution and The Nanniwan Great Production Campaign. In 2011, The History of the Yan'an Revolution was selected for the National Top 10 Permanent Exhibitions Special Award for its compelling narrative and innovative immersive displays. In May 2008, the Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall was designated as a national first-class museum by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

Currently, the museum houses over 38,000 cultural relics, more than 18,000 historical photographs, over 30,000 books, and hundreds of volumes of interview and survey materials.
