Comoran president attends groundbreaking ceremony for China-aided stadium and swimming center

President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani and Chinese Ambassador to the Comoros Guo Zhijun attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a China-aided stadium and swimming center project in the country on May 20.

In his address, Assoumani said that the Comoros and China have maintained positive momentum in developing bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, and the venue will help the Comoros raise its sporting profile. He thanked the Chinese government for its assistance to his country in various areas, and pledged his firm support for China's reunification in the future.

Guo said the project is a major outcome of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and a signature project of China's support for the national construction of the Comoros. He said he hoped the facility will play an important role in sports and youth development, as well as in developing the strategic partnership between China and the Comoros.
