AI industry emerges in Xi'an

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an emerging industry in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province. The city ranked 23rd in the top 100 global AI innovation cities released by AMiner in 2023 and seventh among domestic cities.

Xi'an is promoting an "AI+" initiative that integrates digital technology with manufacturing and market advantages, supporting the application of AI large language models and developing new-generation new energy vehicles, smartphones, computers, and robots.

At the beginning of this year, the AI model DeepSeek became a global focus. The National Supercomputing Center in Xi'an connected with DeepSeek in February, providing high-performance computing resources and computing power support for DeepSeek's AI model training and data processing.

An AI large language model for the intelligent operation and maintenance of rail transit, developed by the Xi'an Rail Transit Intelligent Technology Key Laboratory of Xi'an University of Technology, will soon be applied at Xi'an East Railway Station to achieve intelligent and unmanned track operation.

Xi'an is also building the AI Shaanxi Laboratory and encouraging schools and enterprises to build key laboratories, common technology research and development platforms, innovation centers, and other collaborative innovation platforms.

As of 2024, the number of AI-related enterprises in Xi'an exceeded 500, of which more than 70 percent are concentrated in intelligent healthcare, security, education, and transportation. The city's AI industry generated revenue of 46.48 billion yuan ($6.46 billion) last year.

Xi'an will continue to develop the digital economy, promote the rapid growth of the AI (big data) industry, and strive to create a cultivation and development base of new quality productive forces.
