Standing just 13.5 cm tall, this bronze ding (ritual vessel) from the late Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC) is full of surprises. It features a round body with a shallow belly, paired loop handles and beast mask motifs under the rim. Three bird-shaped legs add dynamic beauty to the vessel, complete with hooked beaks, long tails and crests that support the body. Inside the body, two Chinese characters "Fu Hao" are cast, revealing its owner – one of ancient China's most formidable women.

Discovered in 1976 in Anyang, Henan province, this miniature tripod ding now resides at Henan Museum.
