The Hohhot bureau of culture, tourism, radio, and television held a news briefing on May 12, introducing key events for International Museum Day on May 18 and China Tourism Day on May 19.
Dayao Ruins Park will open to the public to mark Museum Day. A highlight is the joint clock exhibition hosted by the Hohhot Museum, the Palace Museum, and the Chengde Mountain Resort Museum.
Three themed programs – "Explore Hohhot", "Hohhot Education", and "Enjoy Hohhot" – will run across the city's museums. Events include science lectures by top researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as 13 new exhibitions featuring a range of artifacts, from archaeological discoveries to Qing-era timepieces, porcelain, fan art, and displays of intangible heritage. Public engagement activities include artifact appraisal and 20 museum education sessions.
The China Tourism Day celebration will feature over 200 cultural and tourism events from May 19 to 31, including outdoor festivals, family-friendly activities, and sports. An opening ceremony will be held at Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon, with 36 events across six districts.
To promote inclusive tourism, Hohhot is offering free or discounted admission to key scenic spots, such as Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon, Shenquan Ecotourism Area, and Monishan Intangible Heritage Town. Hotel packages, extended services, and cultural nights are also available.
