First created by the private entrepreneur Fan Jianchuan, the Sichuan Museum of Jianchuan covers an area of 33 hectares and is home to more than 10 million collector items, more than 4,000 of which are national precious cultural relics. With 32 venues themed around the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), folk art, revolutionary periods and the Wenchuan earthquake, the Sichuan Museum of Jianchuan has the greatest nongovernmental capital, construction scale, exhibition area and richest collection of any private museum in China. Since opening to the public in 2005, the museum has received more than 20 million visits and has become an outstanding local cultural landmark.

The establishment and operation of the museum has also effectively promoted the development of the local cultural and tourism industries, making Anren town the only “China Museum Town” and one of the first batch of China's characteristic towns.

First created in 1958, Chengdu Museum's modern iteration was opened to the public in 2016 after going through several development phrases.

Covering a construction of nearly 65,000 square meters, it has two main buildings. The southern building accommodates academic research and offices while the northern one houses exhibition galleries displaying natural and human history in chronicle order. Since the museum is also known to the public as Chengdu's National Shadow Puppetry Museum, an entire floor of the northern building is dedicated to an exhibition on Chinese shadow puppet art and shadow plays.

Chengdu Museum is home to a rich collection of nearly 200,000 cultural relics and works of art dating from the Neolithic Age to the first half of the 20th century, including bronzes, gold and silver ware, pictorial bricks, stone carvings, porcelains, calligraphy, paintings, furniture, shadow puppets and wood carvings, which have been formed in a considerable scale and system.

Besides the abundant permanent exhibitions, the museum has launched a number of themed and temporary displays that offer retrospectives of colorful cultural and artistic achievements from home and abroad. The museum supplies high quality public cultural services and provides a boost to the local economy.
