Luzhou, a vibrant ancient hub and river port in Southwest China, was historically known as the premier prefecture in southern Sichuan and the city of liquor. Renowned for its liquor and revolutionary (red) cultures, it is the origin of Luzhou Laojiao, a famous Chinese liquor.

The city museum, Luzhou Museum, was founded in 1984. It showcases the city's art and history of over 2,000 years. It is a regional museum cluster comprising six sites, including the initial site, the Former Residence of Zhu De in the Kuangchang Neighborhood, and the Luzhou Stone Carving Art Museum.

It preserves 15,039 cultural relics, ranging from calligraphy and painting to stone carvings, ceramics, jade, wood carvings, and paleobiological fossils. Calligraphy and painting, stone carvings, and liquor artifacts are among its highlights.

Offering visitors insights into the city's rich heritage, the museum's three main permanent exhibitions include a themed history section detailing its liquor, stone carving, and red cultures, alongside a fine calligraphy and painting exhibition that highlights masterpieces from the Song and Yuan dynasties (960-1368) onward.

The third permanent exhibition features the works of Jiang Zhaohe (1904-86), including oil paintings, sculptures, ink figure paintings, and calligraphy, displaying the artistic life of this 20th-century master of Chinese ink figure painting.
