Green transformation propels Tai'an's high-quality development

In recent years, Tai'an in Shandong has been driving high-quality development through green and low-carbon transformation.

According to official data, the city has over 1,000 high-tech enterprises, with the output value of high-tech industries accounting for 66.8 percent of the city's total. Tai'an leads the province with over 5 million kilowatts of energy storage and installation capacity in progress. The city has also shut down four inefficient small coal-fired units with a capacity of 88,000 kilowatts, significantly reducing energy intensity and coal consumption compared to the previous year.

At the carbon-zero smart control center of Shiheng Special Steel Group Co Ltd, core data points are generated and monitored every minute. Through initiatives like the "Shiteyun" industrial internet platform and the implementation of 280 transformation and intelligent projects, the company has reduced carbon emissions by 300,000 metric tons annually by converting steel plant gas into formic acid. This demonstrates Tai'an's journey towards green, high-quality development.

By leveraging technological innovation, Tai'an is transforming and upgrading traditional industries while nurturing and expanding emerging and future industries.

Over the past year, the city's 10 key sectors, including high-end equipment, new energy, new materials, and cultural tourism, have shown continuous growth. These sectors play a pivotal role in the modern industrial system as the main engine of green transformation.

In 2024, the added value of large-scale high-tech manufacturing in the city increased by 19.1 percent compared to the previous year, while industrial coal consumption decreased by around 10 percent from 2020 levels.
