Daniao, a term used within birdwatching and bird photography communities, refers to the activity of observing birds through binoculars or capturing them from a distance using a camera equipped with a telephoto lens.

Thanks to its pristine natural environment and avian biodiversity, Yangzhou has become a magnet for birdwatchers or photographers seeking this experience.

Many bird enthusiasts enjoy capturing fleeting moments of avian life. Despite this shared passion, their approaches vary widely. Some shots highlight the defining characteristics of each species, while others tend to showcase birds in graceful poses.

Over the course of 25 years, thanks to the continuous efforts of numerous birders, another 173 feathered friends were spotted in Yangzhou, among which are 69 national protected first-class or second-class bird species.

Bird enthusiasts also serve as protectors of these feathered creatures. Concerned about the safety of migratory birds, Hang Dequan, a bird photographer in Yangzhou, once contacted local authorities to have thousands of meters of bird-trapping nets removed. To teach people about birds, he delivers over 10 lectures annually.
