The Mabu Tsho Lake site in Khangmar county, Shigatse, Xizang autonomous region provides an insight into how people lived over 4,000 years ago on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
As the first known Neolithic site in central Xizang dating back more than four millennia, Mabu Tsho offers rich evidence of daily life — tombs, hearths, post holes and stone structures —alongside remarkable artifacts such as millet, ivory, seashells, bronze and gemstones from distant regions.
This site represents a newly identified archaeological culture, reshaping our understanding of early human settlement and cultural exchange in high-altitude environments.
