Unearthing the Majiayao legacy: Discoveries at Gansu's Siwa site

The Majiayao Culture—dating back 4,000 to 5,000 years in the upper Yellow River—represents the zenith of prehistoric painted pottery art in China. Now, a major breakthrough at the Siwa site in Lintao county, Gansu province, has revealed the largest and most advanced Majiayao settlement discovered to date.
Highlights include a remarkable triple-layered moat, nearly 100 residential foundations, tombs, pottery kilns, and tools—evidence of a thriving center of craft, trade, and cultural exchange. These finds shed new light on how Majiayao pottery and influence spread far beyond its origins.
