Panasonic Energy Wuxi launched mass production of its large-diameter battery project on April 11.

Located in Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND), Panasonic Energy Wuxi specializes in producing high-capacity, high-safety lithium batteries and environmentally friendly nickel-metal hydride batteries. The new project focuses on the production of large-diameter batteries, which are primarily used in electric bicycles, construction machinery, and medical equipment. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate an additional annual output value of 400 million yuan ($54.77 million).

As one of the first Fortune Global 500 companies to establish operations in WND, Panasonic's successful rollout of this new battery project underscores its continued technological breakthroughs in the energy sector and strengthens its partnership with the district. The initiative is set to inject fresh momentum into the advancement of WND's new energy industry chain.

Tetsuro Homma, global vice-president of Panasonic Holdings and regional head for China and Northeast Asia, noted that Panasonic will continue to expand investment in new product development, capacity enhancement, R&D, and green manufacturing, aiming for mutually beneficial development with Wuxi.

WND is now home to nearly 80 large-scale enterprises in the new energy sector, covering photovoltaic, lithium, and hydrogen energy segments. The district has attracted leading players including Panasonic Energy, Bosch, and Murata. In 2024, the industry's total output reached 110.4 billion yuan, making WND a major hub for the new energy industry in the Yangtze River Delta region.
