It's been widely said that talent policies are undeniably one of a city's most effective and dynamic tools to stimulate the local economy.
Nowhere is that more evident than in Jinan – capital of East China's Shandong province – where last year the growth rate of its permanent population doubled, with over 150,000 young people choosing to settle there.
As a result, the city's total talent pool has now surpassed 2.87 million.
In fact, for three consecutive years, Jinan has been recognized as one of China's top cities for attracting talent and what's more, it was named a "Talent-Friendly City" in 2024.
Now, in a bid to move in line with the evolving needs of its talent, the city has introduced the 2025 edition of its "Double 30" talent policies.
The key updates in the revision focus on enhanced support for young scientific and technological talent, strengthened support services and the development of improved platforms for growth.
The updated talent policies now reinforce Jinan's commitment to attracting and nurturing top-tier people, while simultaneously driving innovation and economic growth.
On March 20, Jinan hosted a major talent attraction conference to facilitate direct communications between the city and potential talent.
Offering over 30,000 high-quality job opportunities, the conference provided a comprehensive overview of the development trends, key technologies and market orientations of Jinan's industries. This created a platform for connections between prospective talent and employers.
In addition to companies that are based in Jinan, over 200 companies from nine cities in Shandong participated – expanding the event from a city-level initiative to a regional cooperation affair.
Looking ahead, plans are for Jinan to continue to advance its talent initiatives with a more open mindset, pragmatic measures and stronger guarantees – injecting a powerful, talent-driven momentum into the city's development.
