Known as a key habitat for these precious animals, the South China Sea has seen an increase in green sea turtle sightings thanks to the improving ecological environment. In the Qilianyu Islands area of Sansha city, Hainan province, hundreds of green sea turtles flock to the beaches of Beidao Island every breeding season to lay their eggs.
These "homebodies" have a special bond with their birthplace and insist to return to nest after reaching maturity at the age of about 20. No wonder Sansha is fondly called the "hometown of green sea turtles".
