The historic Ganzhou Stage, located at the foot of the Qilian Mountains in Zhangye, Gansu province, was filled with vibrant energy on Feb 8, as finalists competed in a traditional Qinqiang Opera contest. The event served as a prelude to the upcoming Lantern Festival, drawing the attention of both locals and visitors.
The 13th Qinqiang Opera Amateur Contest in Ganzhou district brought together 25 finalists, including 13 young and middle-aged performers and 12 seniors. Contestants showcased a variety of performances, ranging from traditional classics to modern pieces, highlighting the rich heritage and vibrant legacy of Qinqiang Opera.
Thousands gathered to enjoy this cultural feast, which has become a signature event in Zhangye over its 12-year history. The contest has notably attracted growing interest from younger generations, injecting fresh vitality into this traditional art form.
"This year's competition attracted over 100 contestants," said the organizer. "Through preliminary and semifinal rounds, 25 performers advanced to today's finals, showcasing the enduring appeal of Qinqiang Opera in our region."
