An autonomous delivery vehicle was recently spotted on the streets of Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Without a driver's cabin or human driver, the vehicle effortlessly navigates traffic lights and yields to pedestrians, with its smooth maneuvers drawing the attention of many residents.
The autonomous delivery vehicle has reached Level 4 of autonomous driving. Equipped with 360-degree sensing technology and high-definition cameras, it can detect its surroundings in real time, accurately recognizing traffic lights, road markings, and pedestrians. This allows it to fully comply with traffic regulations.
The vehicle has a storage capacity of 5 to 10 cubic meters, a payload of 800 to 1,500 kilograms, and a driving range of 150 to 250 kilometers. It can carry between 500 and 2,000 packages per trip, with preliminary estimates showing it could reduce operating costs for delivery hubs by approximately 62 percent.
"This autonomous delivery vehicle made its debut in Hohhot, helping to ease the workload of couriers and improve delivery efficiency," said Zhao Zhilei, general manager of the Hohhot branch of Jiushi Intelligent Technology Co in Inner Mongolia.
Currently, the vehicle is still in the testing phase. In the future, in addition to the express delivery and logistics industry, autonomous vehicles will be widely used in public security patrols, sanitation cleaning, fire safety awareness campaigns, and other fields.
